A working for the removal of obstruction and the protection of sacred friendship. Road-opening work. It does not seek to harm. It seeks to restore what was — and to protect what must endure.
There are moments when communication simply stops. Not because the relationship ended, not because anything was said — but because something is sitting in the way. Messages go unanswered. Words don't land. The channel between two people who care about each other goes quiet in a way that doesn't make sense. When that happens, this is the kind of work I reach for.
This ritual serves three layered intentions, each building upon the last.
To open all roads of communication that have been blocked, delayed, or obstructed — whether this working is done on behalf of yourself, a client, or a beloved friend and colleague.
To protect and reinforce the bond of friendship against outside interference, manipulation, or spiritual contamination.
To call upon Mercury as divine messenger and guardian of all channels, that words may flow freely, messages may arrive unimpeded, and connection may be restored to its natural and rightful state.
⬡ Reasoning for Date and Time
Wednesday
Wednesday is the day of Mercury — ruler of communication, commerce, travel, and the movement of information between people. All matters of blocked messages, stalled correspondence, and severed connection fall under his domain. To work on his day is to work with the current of the universe rather than against it.
First Hour After Sunrise
On Mercury's day, Mercury also rules the first planetary hour after sunrise — a rare doubling of Mercurial energy that occurs only once per week. The first hour carries the energy of beginnings, of fresh starts, of the day opening itself to possibility. Working at sunrise on Mercury's day, in Mercury's hour, is the most potent window available for this type of working.
Waxing
A waxing moon supports all work of increase, growth, restoration, and return. Road-opening and communication restoration belong to the waxing current — you are calling something back, growing something forward, opening something wider. Never work this ritual under a waning moon, which is reserved for removal and binding.

- Calendula petals if available — solar warmth, friendship, positive connection
- A small dish of water — to carry intention

- A fireproof dish or candle holders
⬡ Preparation
Before beginning, cleanse your working space. Smoke cleanse with rosemary for clarity and protection, or with whatever cleansing method is native to your practice. Ground yourself fully. Breathe into the earth beneath you and draw up its steadiness.
Dress the orange candle with Abre Camino or olive oil, moving your hands upward from base to wick — toward you, pulling the open road to you.
Dress the yellow candle with Mercury oil or lavender-mint oil, again moving upward.
On the paper, write your petition in present tense. Write it as though it is already true.
Fold the paper toward you three times. Place it beneath the yellow candle.
Tie three knots in your gold cord while speaking the name of your friendship — not the people, but the friendship itself as a living thing — into each knot. Set the cord at the base of both candles, connecting them.
Place the bay laurel leaf between the two candles. Scatter calendula petals in a loose arc around your working if you have them.
⬡ The Working
Light the orange candle first.
"I open every road. I clear every path. What has been closed is opened. What has been blocked is freed."
Light the yellow candle from the flame of the orange.
"Mercury, swift one, keeper of crossroads and carrier of words — I call upon you. Stand at the threshold. Open what has been shut. Carry what has been held. Return to me what is mine by right of love and loyalty."
Hold both hands over the candles, palms down, and speak the incantation.
By the light of Mercury's day and the growing face of the moon, I call all roads open, I call all channels clear. What interference has built, I now undo. What has been silenced, I now restore.
As this flame rises, so rises our connection. As this light grows, so grows the space between us — free of entanglement, free of obstruction, free of any hand that does not belong there.
Our friendship is a living root. No frost that falls upon its branches reaches the ground where it is held. No wind that speaks against it carries the weight of truth. It stands. It endures. It returns.
Word finds word. Voice finds ear. Heart finds heart. The road is open.
I call upon the power of 3, blessed by the Holy Trinity. As I speak, so it shall be.
So it is. So it shall be. So it is done.
⬡ Closing
Sit with the candles until you feel the energy settle — until something shifts in your body, a release or a deepening breath. This is the signal that the working has been received.
The working is planted. The universe has received it.
