In every wise woman's apothecary sits a humble jar that holds miraculous power — a healing salve that serves as both medicine and magic for the skin.
This golden balm combines two of nature's most beloved healers: calendula, whose sunny petals have mended wounds since ancient Roman times, and comfrey, known as "knitbone" for its legendary ability to heal torn tissue.
This isn't just another remedy — it's liquid comfort that soothes everything from scraped knees to weathered hands to hearts that need gentle tending. Each jar holds the concentrated healing wisdom of flowers that spent their days drinking sunshine and transforming light into medicine that your skin recognizes as pure love.
⬡ The Botanicals
Called "pot marigold" in the old herbals, calendula has been a trusted wound healer since Roman legions carried it into the field. Its golden petals are rich in flavonoids and triterpenes that reduce inflammation, speed cellular repair, and soothe irritated skin. Magically, calendula carries the energy of the sun — warmth, protection, and the power to draw healing toward you.
The name "knitbone" tells you everything you need to know. Comfrey contains allantoin, a compound that accelerates cell proliferation and is used to this day in professional wound care. Herbalists have applied it to bruises, sprains, and broken skin for centuries. Its deep green leaves carry the energy of the earth itself — grounding, binding, restoration of what has been torn.
⬡ The Recipe
This salve follows the traditional double-infusion method — slow heat drawing every healing compound out of the dried herbs and into the carrier oil before the beeswax sets it into a balm. Do not rush the infusion. The patience is part of the medicine.
Ingredients
- ½ cup Coconut oil, organic virgin
- ¼ cup Beeswax pellets
- 2 tbsp Dried calendula flowers
- 1 tbsp Dried comfrey leaf
- 10 drops Lavender essential oil
- as needed Small glass jars for storage
Instructions
Create the herbal infusion by gently heating the coconut oil in a double boiler over low heat. You want warmth, not simmer — the oil should never smoke or bubble.
Add the dried calendula flowers and comfrey leaf to the warm oil. Maintain low, gentle heat for two full hours, stirring occasionally. The oil will deepen to a beautiful amber gold as the botanicals release their medicine.
Strain the herbs through cheesecloth, pressing firmly to extract every last drop of infused oil. Do not skip the pressing — the richest material clings to the plant matter.
Return the strained herbal oil to the double boiler. Add the beeswax pellets and stir slowly until completely melted and incorporated. To test consistency, place a small drop on a cold plate — if it sets too soft, add a little more wax; too firm, add a touch more oil.
Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for just a moment — enough that it is no longer scorching — then add your lavender essential oil and stir to blend.
Pour into sterilized glass jars while the mixture is still liquid. Work quickly — it sets faster than you expect. Let the jars cool completely, undisturbed, before capping.

Applications
⬡ Magical Properties
Every ingredient in this salve was chosen for what it does in the body — and what it carries in the spirit. When you prepare this with intention, you are making more than a remedy.
⬡ The Healing Ritual
Medicine made with intention carries more than its chemistry. This is something the wise women of every tradition have known — that the hands that prepare a remedy leave their mark upon it, and the mind that holds healing purpose changes what the body receives.
Hold the jar between both palms. Close your eyes. Breathe in slowly and bring to mind the image of whatever needs to heal — the skin, the wound, the weariness. Feel warmth moving from your hands into the salve, and from the salve into the healing you are calling forward.
Hold your intention for healing and protection. Ask that this medicine do its work completely, that the body it touches be restored to wholeness, that the skin be knit back together by the same wisdom that made it.
Then apply with gentle hands and a quiet heart.
Keep this golden healer close — your skin will thank you for this botanical blessing.
If you are working through a healing that feels complicated — physical, spiritual, or both — and you want clarity before you begin, reach out. Sometimes you need to know what you're working with first.
