Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
The cross is venerated and raised up. In folk tradition, September 14 marks the turning of the seasons — after Holy Cross Day, summer is truly over. Snakes go underground, swimming season ends. A liminal marker in the folk calendar.
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. — Galatians 6:14, KJV
